When a catch-all helps
A catch-all is the right choice when you'd rather receive everything than risk a message bouncing. It's handy for:
- Using a fresh address per signup (
netflix@,bank@) without creating each one ahead of time. - Making sure mail to a misspelled address -
suport@instead ofsupport@- still reaches you. - Keeping a tidy single inbox for a small personal domain.
Create the catch-all
- Make sure you have a verified destination ready.
- Open Routes → Add route and select your domain.
- Choose the Catch-all option instead of typing a specific address.
- Set the action to Forward and pick your destination.
- Save. Any address on the domain without a more specific rule now forwards here.
Exact rules still win
A catch-all doesn't override your specific aliases. JoltMx matches each recipient address by priority: an exact alias is always preferred over the catch-all. So you can mix the two freely:
billing@yourdomain.com → accounts@company.com (exact alias)
support@yourdomain.com → team inbox (exact alias)
* (everything else) → you@gmail.com (catch-all)
Mail to billing@ goes to your accountant; mail to anything else falls through to the catch-all. Read more in How routing rules work.
Things to keep in mind
- Catch-alls receive spam too. Because every address is live, expect more junk than a named alias. JoltMx checks SPF, DKIM, and DMARC on every message and can filter by sender - see SPF, DKIM & DMARC explained.
- One catch-all per domain. It's the fallback, so there's only one. To split traffic, add exact aliases above it.
- You can still see everything. Each forwarded message has a full timeline in the dashboard, whether it matched an alias or the catch-all.
